Training Details

You are investing time, energy and money in your placement. You need to be sure that your investment will pay off and that your contribution is effective.

The Schoolhouse training course is designed to be practical, enjoyable and very stimulating. It sets the tone for your placement and skills development and is really the first step on your journey.

The training course shows you how to make best use of your English language skills and equips you through presentations, activities and workshops, with innovative methods to teach English in a range of volunteering situations. You'll learn how to be resourceful and to use what you know and love - hobbies, interests and the immediate environment - to create lessons, play sessions and activities.

The course also gives a practical cultural orientation - a valuable preparation for living and working in a different culture. There's an introduction to the local language. Speaking even a little of the language leads to a unique experience - you'll find local people are delighted by your efforts and doors will open that would otherwise remain shut. You'll also feel what it's like to be a language learner and experience how wonderful it is to achieve this new form of communication.

You'll receive a training manual prior to arrival at the training course which will be a resource and guide during your placement.
